Staff and Volunteer Survey

In December 2017, former Cinefamily staff, volunteers, management, and board members were invited to take an online survey regarding their experiences of Cinefamily operations.

About half of respondents identified as former volunteers. Most of the rest identified as former staff, mixed roughly evenly between hourly and salaried. About 10 percent listed some other work done for Cinefamily (often as a contractor).

91 percent of respondents indicated their willingness to go on the record with government regulators. 61 percent indicated a willingness to go on record with the press.

Over two-thirds of respondents believe there were labor law violations at Cinefamily; nearly half report experiencing labor law violations.

Respondents reported directly experiencing sexual harassment and assault, as well as both violent and non-violent abuse. A majority of respondents reported directly witnessing both operational and financial mismanagement.

When respondents report bringing problems to the attention of a supervisor, the vast majority did not find their concerns addressed.
